Participants will discuss the findings of an Independent Development Evaluation (IDEV)  assessment of the Last Mile Connectivity Project (LMCP) Phase I in Kenya.

The roundtable will flag the evidence-based impacts of rural electrification, share experiences, and agree on actions to increase the effects of ongoing and future interventions.

Lessons from this event will help the bank and power sector stakeholders in Kenya to better understand the real issues around rural electricity distribution and usage, and factor them into the design and implementation of similar projects in other countries.

The Kenya LMCP evaluation noted that the financial sustainability of power utilities is critical for ensuring quality and reliable electricity in eligible households. It also establishes that the high cost of electricity relative to household incomes undermines its access and productive use.

The roundtable will seek to address questions regarding how to sustain rural electrification, how to empower rural communities to use the available electricity productively, and ways to assist power utilities in achieving return on their investment.

Evaluation Report author will be available for media interviews: Eustace Uzor
