Journey into the heart of one of Argentina’s most passionate and iconic cultural treasures: tango. Through a new collection on Google Arts & Culture, we’re bringing the history, music, and spirit of tango to users around the world.

Google Arts & Culture has long been committed to preserving and celebrating Argentina’s rich heritage, having collaborated with 25 local partners across the country. Following the success of Argentina’s Table — our exploration of the nation’s diverse culinary scene — we’re now turning our focus to the dance and music style that’s captivated global audiences and earned a place on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list.

In collaboration with five key partners — MALBA (Museo de Arte Latinoamericano de Buenos Aires Malba), Tango & Tango, The National Secretariat of Culture of Argentina, the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires, and Marca País Argentina — we’ve brought together over 50 stories, not just about the dance, but about the people who keep it alive. Visit the collection to explore the legacies of legends like Carlos Gardel and Julio De Caro, as well as the personal stories of contemporary orchestra players, passionate dancers, and the artisans who craft the instruments and shoes that define the tango style.

"In the national government, we celebrate initiatives like this, which combine technology, cooperation between institutions, and coordination with the private sector to preserve and disseminate our cultural heritage," says Leonardo Cifelli, Argentina's national secretary of culture. "A few weeks away from a new anniversary of tango’s UNESCO recognition (September 30), this collaboration represents a new opportunity to project one of the most valuable expressions of Argentine identity to the world."

The artisans behind the magic: Tango is a complete ecosystem that relies on passionate dancers, orchestra players and the dedicated artisans who handcraft the specialized shoes, clothes and instruments, such as the bandoneon.

A global heartbeat in Buenos Aires: A powerful global attraction, tango brings people from all corners of the world to the streets of Buenos Aires, uniting a passionate international community. Discover how this comes to life throughout the city by exploring tango neighborhoods and learning about the historic traditions of tango bars.

Whether you’re a seasoned milonguero or discovering tango for the first time, we hope this project inspires you to step into the history, movement and soul of Argentina on the dedicated page and by downloading the free Google Arts & Culture app on iOS or Android.
